Owner and Certified Professional Dog Trainer, Anissa Knickerbocker, has had dogs in her family since she can remember and trained her first dog over 15 years ago. Anissa decided to turn professional without falling into the same singular “method” of training as others have, so she enrolled in an intensive Master Trainer course at National K-9 Learning Center, which includes a combination of classroom instruction, hands-on training experience, written testing, and extensive field evaluations under the supervision of experienced instructors. The National K-9 Learning Center is recognized internationally and approved by the Ohio State Board of Career College and Schools.

I am fortunate that I was able to turn my love and passion for animals into a profession that allows me the ability to enrich the lives of dogs and the people who love them.

The number of dogs in shelters is staggering... anywhere between two million and four million dogs each year. Some statistics state that over fifty-six percent (56%) of these dogs are euthanized, not including those abandoned, in rescues, or neglected. The number one reason that people willingly surrender their dogs is due to behavioral issues. A professional dog trainer can help resolve seventy percent (70%) of all behavioral issues with basic obedience training.

It is my hope to reduce the number of dogs given up to shelters and rescues by educating and training owners and their dogs.

Anissa's husband, Kory Knickerbocker, is Obedient K-9's Assistant Dog Trainer. Dogs have been a major part of Kory's life and he has rarely been without one. His passion for dogs and obedience training started 17 years ago after training his own Golden Retriever in basic obedience, and he has benefitted greatly from Anissa's formal training and personal instruction. Through the years, Kory has worked with several of his own dogs, those of family and friends, and more recently as an Assistant Dog Trainer with Obedient K-9. Kory is scheduled to attend the National K-9 Learning Center's Master Trainer Course in the first quarter of 2009 and will then become a full-time trainer with Obedient K-9.

Basic Obedience Training has always been the source of the wonderful relationships with every dog I've owned. It's incredible to see the transformation of the interaction between a dog and their owner after only a few training sessions.

Obedient K-9 and its staff support the following local charities and organizations in and around the Columbus area through monetary donations and individuals donating their time, talent, and efforts:

  • Kamp Dovetail - a volunteer run summer camp sponsored by Supplemental Assistance to The Handicapped ( S. A. T. H.) a non-profit organization. The camp is for children with disabilities in Highland and surrounding counties of Ohio.
  • Golden Endings - a Columbus based rescue organization for Golden Retrievers.
  • Ronald McDonald House - the Columbus Ronald McDonald House where families of hospitalized children come in their time of need. The families find a tiny bit of comfort and peace from the unthinkable that is often their day.
